Anna Sweeney Rossman lost her mother, Madeline "Ami" Sweeney, in the September 11 terrorist attacks when she was five years old. This tragic event not only affected her life but she has felt the absence of her mother at every stage of her life.
A Constant Grief on the Eve of the Anniversary
As the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks approaches, Anna shared her feelings in an interview. She emphasized that the absence of her mother is profoundly felt during significant moments in her life, including shopping for her wedding dress and the birth of her daughters. While planning her wedding in 2023, the sorrow from her mother's absence became even more apparent.
With tears in her eyes, Anna said, "The fact that my mother couldn't be by my side was a deep emotional blow. Every time I think about special moments, I realize what I have lost." She added that her mother will always be in her heart, and she tries to keep her memory alive.
A Heroic Remembrance
Anna's mother, Ami Sweeney, is recognized as a hero. She bravely and compassionately helped identify the hijackers during that horrific day and saved many lives. Although Anna never got to remember her mother, her heroic story will always remain in her family.
This anniversary, Anna plans to hold a ceremony in memory of her mother and learn from her life. She wants to show others how to continue living despite great losses and fill their lives with love and the remembrance of their heroes.
